Worship Committee

The Worship Committee is an advisory group to the Pastor and the Director of Music Ministries and participates in worship planning and direction. Worship Committee strives to strengthen and support the ministry of Longview UMC by providing and facilitating an opportunity to worship and praise God, in a welcoming and spiritual environment. We attempt to be open and innovative in modes of worship to accommodate all ages of the faith family.

Some of the responsibilities of the Worship Committee are:

…To learn both about worship and about the people in the congregation and community to plan worship appropriate to their needs.

…To promote and foster regular individual and family spiritual formation.

…Enabling the congregation to experience the worship style and contributions of various cultural, racial and ethnic groups

...Caring for and changing the paraments (altar cloths) according to the Christian calendar year. Maintain the altar and candles.

…Power Point slides to be prepared, in place and being run when needed.

…Sound equipment, to ensure good sound quality, make sure all can be part of worship.

...Decorating sanctuary to coincide with theme of worship series

...Assisting with recruiting lay speakers, communion servers and communion preparation.

...Ushers and Acolytes are part of Worship Committee responsibilities. Acolyte training is offered several times each year.

...Lent, Holy Week and Easter activities.

…Recommending the placement and use of memorial gifts for worship

…See that meaningful worship experiences are provided for children and youth.

…Prepare a budget for worship activities, equipment, and materials to be sent to the Finance Committee.

…Encouraging the wider use and understanding of visual arts, dramatic arts, and architectural design as expressions of faith and means of proclaiming the gospel.

Worship Committee is an opportunity for new ideas to enrich and enhance not only Sunday morning worship but other activities during the year. We would love to have new members with new and exciting ideas. Please come and join this busy committee.
